Australian Museum | Sydney Day 2

Woke up on the later side today but late last night I bought a ticket to an exhibit at the Australian Museum for 2:30pm. The weather was much nicer than I thought it was going to be – it got into the low 80’s and was sunny. I think it rained earlier. The museum was about a 15 minute walk away so I went for it. It was a nice walk and the museum was easy to find. I thought I would fly through a lot of it but I was surprised how much of the info I read.

I first went to a bird exhibit where the entire room was lined with cases containing stuffed birds that all are from Australia. I found it pretty interesting.

The next room was the dinosaurs. But first I got turned around and ended up in the kids playroom. My nightmare. It wasn’t much better in the dinosaur room. Kids were EVERYWHERE! But the dinosaur info and exhibits were cool.

I also saw some Pacific Islander artifacts.

By the time I finished with that exhibit it was time for the one I got a ticket for – Relics. Relics is this really cool immersive art exhibit where these futuristic worlds are built by legos. I highly recommend zooming in on these photos so you can really see the level of detail. It’s insane the stories the exhibits tell.

It took me about an hour to get through the 15 scenes. The museum also had a free exhibit of the 2025 Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year. Now that was really interesting! Some of the works really stood out so I took a picture of them. It’s hard to believe these are actually real photos.

I was running out of time as the museum was closing. I really wanted to see the Minerals section. I wish I could have stayed longer. These are what stood out.

I managed to duck into the 200 Treasures room. It’s where they display random items from Australian and Pacific Islands.

I also captured a shot of St. Mary’s Church when I walked out.

Stopped by a dumpling and noodle restaurant so I could pick up dinner. The dumplings were so so. The steamed pork buns were good and the pork fried rice was decent. I have to shower and get to bed early because I have an early start tomorrow. I’m taking the Train 2 hours away to the Blue Mountains.
