Brisbane Pride | Day 1
It seemed all this activity had me spent! I needed a day to just chill and nap. I was however woken up in the afternoon to the sound of music coming from the river. I went out to the lanai and there was a boat procession-City Cats (public ferry), jet skis and private boats-celebrating Pride. What a cool surprise! It was a small procession but cute. A lot of people were on their lanais watching.
Resumed my nap and suddenly it’s around 5pm. It was a rainy evening but I wanted to motivate and grab some dinner out. I found an Italian (but of course) restaurant on the water that looked great so I made a reservation. What was supposed to be a 10 minute walk took me 30 minutes as it was really confusing how to get to the river boardwalk where the restaurant was from the street. The entrance I was instructed to take was closed. But I had given myself extra time, figured it out and was on time for my 8:30 reservation.
The dinner was a great experience! The staff was super nice. Almost everyone I interacted with had an Italian accent. The menu had lots of great options too. I had a hard time deciding between the veal parmigiana with saffron risotto or homemade spaghetti cecio o peppe (I think I butchered the spelling). The spaghetti dish is the one they make in front of you in the cheese wheel. I’ve never had that dish – only have seen it – but I thought it might be too rich. So I went with my favorite-the veal. To start I had the Mamma Mia cocktail which had vodka, a lychee and peach something. It was super sweet and not in a fantastic way unfortunately. I also had a croquette appetizer that had spaghetti and pecorino cheese in it. Wow! Super tasty!!!! The veal parmigiana was great too! Very tender – I didn’t need a knife. And the risotto was pretty yummy too. I have enough leftovers for dinner tomorrow.
I was stuffed by the end of the meal. I think someone famous in Australia sat at the table next to me as I was finishing dinner. The restaurant was making a fuss over him. He was with a stunning woman and he looked like he might have been a surfer. But who knows.
It was still drizzling when I finished but I decided to walk back to the Airbnb using the beach boardwalk (it’s on the river). The Story Bridge was lit up for Pride and it was beautiful!! Great walk back to digest everything. I also discovered a short cut for getting to and from the Airbnb and the boardwalk.
Even after all that napping I was in bed by midnight. Planning to do some serious site seeing on the river tomorrow!
